In the Dominican Republic, there are different options available, ensuring the perfect fit for each family dynamic and personal needs. Whether you’re looking for a secluded beach house, an apartment in the heart of the city, a neighborhood community home for children, or a coastal townhouse, the Dominican Republic has it all.  

If you don’t have family or friends in the area and haven’t found your future home just yet, there is no need to worry. There are plenty of temporary accommodations located around the island for you to stay in while you get your new life started.  

Typically, new arrivals book a hotel or rent a villa to kick-start their experience in the Dominican Republic. It’s important to note that throughout the year prices and availability fluctuate based off of tourism peak season, but there are so many options available that regardless of the time of year, you are guaranteed to find a place.  There are two distinct high seasons in the Dominican Republic; the summer months of July and August and winter season from December to March. During those months, hotels and rentals tend to be pricier with less availability, but with so many options available, high season shouldn’t scare you away from starting your adventure during that time. 

Here are a few of the key neighborhoods to look into when considering moving to the Dominican Republic. These are not all of the options available, but some of the best, and will give you insight on the options available.  

In Santo Domingo, Piantini is a neighborhood in the city of Santo Domingo that is popularly populated by the upperclass. Naco is another neighborhood in Santo Domingo that is popular amongst the upper middle class. These neighborhoods provide luxury housing options in a safe environment.  

In Punta Cana, Cap Cana Marina is a popular place to live for its amenities and safety. Cap Cana has many shops, a small marina, and being in a tourist area, it is filled with activities for the entire family.  

Halfway between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana lies La Romana. In La Romana, there is a community called Casa De Campo. The resort community is home to one of the most luxurious hotels in the country, and is a popular place to live. This community has a marina, numerous shops and restaurants, and first class amenities. Casa de Campo is often the goal for families in the Dominican Republic.
