Languages

The official language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish, however in many areas, especially tourist areas, English is widely spoken. It is common to receive a menu with English translations or to hear locals talking in “Spanglish.” Even though English is common, it is still wise to learn basic Spanish phrases before arriving and to continue practicing and expanding vocabulary while here.
